look at all those acronyms...we're surrounded
operative word being Serve.
what happened along the way? honestly, police, rather uniformed officers, are sworn to protect US, the citizens of the State and are sworn in BY that state. we trust them to do their job & protect us from the crazies and to keep a general order. right, right.
so why are we afraid of them, they serve to protect us, right? well, no. i am going to refer to a well known experiment; the Stanford Prison Experiment.
the long and short of it is that a Stanford professor got together a bunch of students for his experiment & separated them into 2 groups; Guards & Inmates. randomly selected of course, all these kids are Standford College students mind you, good kids (relatively speaking i’m sure)
basically this experiment proved that absolute power corrupts absolutely. within 24 hrs the guards acted just as guards would, harassing and beating the inmates. and withing 48 hours the inmates were falling right into place with everything doing exactly as they were told. amazing stuff, i’d say. again, i think what is important to note here is that they are all peers & students, all equal in most every way. but suddenly the group of guards held themselves to a higher ’status’ in society than the rest. and this is what is happening in the streets today as well. we have this micro-societies within the grand society. uniformed officers and other government employees (not all this is just a generalization) get to live in their own bubble, or Monkey Sphere if you will. how the hell do they get to live above the law of which they are sworn to protect and serve?! if no one else should be held accountable it should be the very people who uphold them. when did the balance of power shift? when did we stop counting on police to be kind, respectful people who are open minded & just?
a fellow blogger over at realpolitiks summed up the very point i am trying to illustrate:
‘The idea that people in special positions of power should also be granted special leeway when they abuse this power is ludicrous, and tantamount to institutionalizing injustice. Special power should always be subjected to special scrutiny, and justify its action, if that power is to be taken for anything but tyranny. ‘
ok, i was just about to hit the Publish button and i came upon something so ridiculous i just have to share it. i will copy and paste a small section from thesmokinggun (trackback below):
“While being fingerprinted, Cruz allegedly “lifted his leg and passed gas loudly on Ptlm. Parsons. The defendant then fanned the air with his hand in front of his rear onto” the cop. “The gas,” the complaint notes, “was very odorous and created contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Ptlm. Parsons.” In addition to the DUI count, Cruz was also charged with battery on a police officer for the farting incident”
for the love of everything in this world that we hold dear, how in the wholy shit did this man get CHARGED with FARTING on an officer?! since WHEN is can you be prosecuted for farting? where is this law? i want to read it! this is ridiculous. yes, read the article you will see the guy is not the best of people, but lets be logical here! so the officer was offended, yea, and?
people do NOT have the right NOT to be offended! im sure my girlfriends around the world are offended every day when their man farts in front of them, does that mean they can be charged with a misdemeanor?! where has common sense gone?! farting has to be covered in the constitution! we’ve been doing it since the beginning of time!
o man, what an emotional morning this has been! this kind of information infuriates me, and almost makes me consider a careerin politics….then i slap myself and snap back to reality.
